2013: New Beginnings

Have you ever felt the need for change? You can’t explain why, but something inside of you wants to be different?

Yeah, I felt the same. So, what, new haircut rights? I had the idea of face frame, layers, two inches off, the whole shabang. Well, change isn’t as easy at it looks. Well, if you have actually seen the entire process of “change” it doesn’t look easy- so- change may not be as easy as it seems. Here I am sitting in the hair salon when all of the sudden I am nervous. Very nervous, for a simple haircut! End of story, did get the face frame and an inch and a half cut off my hair. My hair is still very long, or so I am told.

New hair cut Style? I’ve always been Madewell/Free People. I was either very preppy, preppy, or preppy with a twist of boho. My sister has always been, her new favorite word, trendy. She has a billion solid flowy sheer blouses, black leggings, studded combat boots, and everything WILDFOX. I am not saying I want to go to this extreme, but perhaps a nice medium will do,

Maybe I can be, dare I say, rock and roll? Except, I don’t really know rock music that much. I like all of the t shirts and more edgy clothing, but can I wear The Who shirt, not knowing who The Who really is? Let’s just say I had to do a lot of googling and Wikipedia time researching Jimmy Page and Nirvana. Apparently, there are a lot of Nirvana fans in my school. Who knew?!

My new style will be a combination of Chaser + Wildfox + Madewell + Free People + who knows!? What will all of this equal? I wonder what my new style classification will be. Anyway, I love all of my clothes, there is no getting rid of them, but some fresh and edgy pieces will be an exciting way to start out the new year! Hey, maybe I will buy a skull shirt? For me, that is as daring as its going to get.

A True Holiday Shimmer

No matter what holiday you celebrate, there is something universal about this time of year: Fashion. The holiday dresses, of course. The sparkle, the glitz, the glam, the sequin, and the shine. As you enter each store you are presented with the most sparkly white dress. Of course you love this dress, who wouldn’t? You can imagine yourself twirling in the short white sequined dress, dancing the night away. No matter what you wear for the upcoming holidays, remember to feel confident and believe that you can shine as bright as your dress does in the spotlight.

May Inspiration- No Matter How Small- Enlighten Us All

Calling to all people who can’t seem to fall asleep tonight. Maybe for everyone there are different reasons why slumber seems to fail us. For me, when I get started on something, and when I feel truly “productive” there is no stopping. These “revelations,” for some reason, always come at night fall. When I should be sensible and catch up on well deserved sleep, plans and the future can never seem to escape my mind. This could develop into a particular bad habit, but this is how i “run”.

We all function in different ways, and well mine, seem to occur arbitrarily. It could be midnight, it could be two AM and a new story idea can hit me: no thought, simply grab my journal and quickly scribe my thoughts and ideas. Room is a total mess? It’s three AM? Not a problem. Why I feel these sudden productive moments, I do not know. What I do know, however, is nothing bad ever comes of them. In fact, these spur of the moments are the opposite of harm. They are inspirations. Good- no- great ones.

Ah, the dash (-). The new effective technique I have learned in English class. Add a dash and the whole room will stop. It shows emotion, it shows excitement, it shows meaning! Finally the author has a voice, a personality, a style. A dash. And these dashes are not meaningless. They provide entertainment-no-drama! Who does not love to read drama?

A reader now may ask, what is the relation between inspiration and the dash? Dear reader, I shall explain. One results in the other, yet not the order you think. Imagine:

A sentence. A beginning of a sentence. You start to just formulate your thoughts into proper words. You think you are finding sense and meaning and all of the sudden…your thoughts change! You have had a revelation, an inspiration. Your ideas may not have experienced a three sixty, yet they have grown and expanded! The blocks have built on top of another. Your sentence now has a dash. A wait a minute, a hold it right there, a can you say that again? It’s the time to realize that your thoughts and dreams have altered, you have discovered something new, you are becoming more aware with the world and with yourself. The DASH ladies and gentlemen, explore your inspirations and develop them! Shakespeare could not write a breathtaking monologue with one simple soliloquy- no, rather sparks flew as he wrote “What light through yonder window breaks” and continued on and on in a passionate rage.

The DASH represents the change the revelation the beginning, middle, and end. It encompasses it all. Who we were (!), who we are now (.) , and who we are going to be (?). So many questions yet so little answers. Yet, the DASH allows us to start the journey of question. It permits us to begin to voyage of questioning and reasoning and answers and discoveries and more incredible ventures.

Once again, reaching to all insomniacs tonight. Tonight is my night of insomnia, my night of prodcution, inspiration, and action. Yet action must wait till the morning. For now, we shall all sleep dreaming of the wonders of tomorrow and the new steps we are all taking. Good night, for now, and for all, good luck on our adventures tomorrow.

May our dreams not erase our inspirations tonight, may our dreams rather enlighten and take our imagination flight.

Corduroy, Monday November 5th: The Best Part

Corduroy pants do not have to be a uniform brown color. Sure, one can have their lightest corduroy or their darkest browns, but that is not where this pant fabric style has to end. Instead, see how far the corduroy can range. Don’t think navy is outside the box: yellow, orange, green are all acceptable and fun corduroy colors. Yet, how does corduroy go with a pattern? Well, perfect, actually. Corduroy with stripes, diamonds, and yes, polka dots.

Don’t we all want something with a hint of surprise and a sense of warmth. Corduroy provides comfort and style, something that can be hard to find.

I’ve always been a huge corduroy fan- no you don’t have to be “preppy” to wear corduroy. Don’t feel like wearing jeans or leggings? Corduroys are the exemplary winter and fall pant. I’ve got a stack of corduroy; dark brown, light brown, off brown, light blue, navy, black, and now polka dot.

Sure, polka dot corduroys are a little outside the box. But that’s the best part.
